REGULAR FALL MEETING

of Friends of Parks was held at the CPR Station on Nov. 22 with 19 members present. It was decided at the meeting that all future meetings would start at 7:00 PM -- rather than 7:30 as has been our custom in the past.

Don't be confused by the time change when the notice appears in the paper!

Treasurer Poul Henriksen reported that our finances are in good order and that the financial report for this year will be presented at the AGM in February. Several new members had joined at SUNFEST and the Fall Fair, plus the new members who joined at the September meeting.

Gordon and John reported that the trails are in good condition . Dave said the care of Waldie Island has been well done by Steven Rigby. Did you know that Gordon and Dave have completed a Doggy-doo Station at Waldie? See Gordon's report in this newsletter of some of the comments hikers have placed in the boxes at various trailheads. Lesley Killough's Trans-Canada Trail news appears in a separate article.

The main event of the evening was Lesley's presentation called "Wild Flowers Along the Trails". How fortunate we are to have Lesley amongst us to delight all present as she does. Her scholarship, artistry, and delicate humour are captivating to hear and watch! She is contagious! Thank you, Lesley. and please come again!

Regional News of the Trans-Canada Trail

The Regional TCT meeting was held recently with president Ray Gaudart of Trail passing the gavel back to former president, Sjeng Derx of Nelson.

There will be a meeting of Regional Representatives in the spring. Lesley Killough is our Regional Rep.

News about the Columbia and Western Railgrade indicates much improvement to the safety of the railbed with the covering of the trestles and the shoring of the ceiling of Bulldog Tunnel.

There are some rough cycling sections partly because of over enthusiastic grading in spots where more rocks were dug up than were smoothed out.

More information regarding trail use and improvements will be in the next newsletter.
